Belkin Grip Kindle Sleeve

1 Belkin Grip Kindle Sleeves

First up is the Belkin Grip Neoprene Sleeve for the new Kindle. We have a few reasons for choosing this particular model:

The price. So many great covers and cases cost too much (we believe) when you consider the low price of the new eReader itself. At the time of writing these Grip sleeves are being sold for under 15 quid which we think is a bit more realistic.
The grippy panel on the front means you really cannot seem to drop your reader, even on the busy tube!
Good colour choices.
Zips up securely.
Good padding – but not overly large or heavy.
The Kindle slides out totally for reading. Personally I am not a fan of those covers which add corner tabs or straps to keep the device in place. The best reading pleasure is surely to be had with the “naked” Kindle, light and ergonomic – and with such a sleeve that’s exactly what you get.
Neoprene construction gives you some degree of protection against liquids and means it is hand washable.

2 Built Kindle Sleeves

We have loved these since the beginning. The new slimmer fit for the Kindle 4 has not disappointed. However I have to be honest – the fit isn’t quite as snug as it used to be for the keyboard version. This is because in the US (where the Kindle Touch is actually on sale) Built are selling this cover to suit both the touch and the 4th generation models. They are similar in size, but not identical and it shows. This might be slim but because it is built to hold the slightly larger touch-screen model I wouldn’t go holding it upside-down like I can with the Kindle keyboard version.

I know they are a little on the expensive side. But, these are so convenient, fluffy, fun and colourful I had to include them again!

3 Amazon Leather Kindle Cover

Amazon Kindle Cover Yes I know it is pricey! And that is why I tried desperately hard not to include it in our run down of the best new Kindle cases. However, when you look at the alternatives if you are after a book style jacket, this one beats them hands down.

For a start much of the competition relies on corner straps which are untidy and I find annoying since the design of the reader itself is so clean and sleek. Secondly the prices, for anything even approaching half way decent in terms of quality, are usually almost the same. For a few pounds more (and that really is all you’re paying if you want a leather jacket), the Amazon own covers are the better choice.

This is a bit tougher. The fact that the device itself is more expensive means that we are a little more open to spending a bit more on a case for it! Also, since it has been with us for a few years now there is ample choice, from super budget, to high end luxury. But which 3 cases do we recommend?

1. Lighted Kindle Keyboard Cover

Kindle Keyboard Lighted Cover This is pretty pricey I know. But, if you want a decent light it is not actually a bad price.

Because I prefer a sleeve type cover personally I hunted for a reading light that lit the whole screen and didn’t go through batteries like crazy. I eventually settled on an Octovo clip on light instead after trying a few cheaper models. But at around twenty quid for such a good light you can see that the lighted cover itself is priced as you would expect. After all the light is great and importantly, it is always to hand since it slips into the back cover when not being used.

2 Belkin Pleated Kindle Keyboard Sleeve

I like that this is simple, yet really functional. The pleated pocket expands to hold just about anything you could want to accompany your Kindle.

Plus of course it is cheaper!

Because it zips up tight and secure this is the kind of case most suited to a crazy messy hand-bag – nothing is going to get in there and mess up your display!

Personally I don’t see why it is nearly double the price of the Grip version for the smaller reader detailed above – but that’s the only negative I can come up with for these sleeves!

3. Built Kindle Keyboard Sleeves

Built Kindle Keyboard Sleeve Yes, I’ve mentioned these before! But the simple style and amazing tight fit just keeps me coming back to the Built sleeves for the Kindle keyboard – I am sad enough to own a few colours now though ScatterDot remains the favourite!

As I write these are out of stock. And, it seems a lot of other previously popular keyboard covers are out of stock too. I wonder if the manufacturers know something we can only suspect… is the Kindle keyboard to disappear from the UK store sometime soon?

I wouldn’t be surprised so if you want a new cover for a keyboard model I guess it is probably time to act fast if you want any choice!

Time for a round-up of the Best Kindle Covers to buy in the UK. The original lighted Kindle Covers came as something of a pleasant surprise. But the latest models for the smaller Kindle 4 are even better. Rather than relying on hinges the ebook reader simply snaps into the moulded back cover – far easier and also no problems with the connections on the back powering the light.

With a beautiful range of colours to choose from there is one to suit just about everyone. But, only if you want to read your Kindle inside a jacket style cover.

The smart little LED light sits out of the way inside the back cover, but pops up when you want to use it. Then it switches on automatically, lighting the Kindle display.

The key selling point is that the light is always to hand, but needs no batteries. How you might wonder, well it’s because the hinge system (and a connection in the back for the non keyboard models) that holds the Reader in place is gold plated which allows a little current to pass from the Kindle to the book-light. Nifty idea if you want to read in bed without rummaging around for batteries, and without disturbing your bed-fellow.

2. Kindle Sleeves from Built

For something altogether different we love the new range of Kindle Sleeves from Built. The range includes different size versions for the keyboard ebook reader and the smaller wi-fi 4th generation model.

Keeping things simple really follows the lead of the sleek new smaller Kindle. These are for people that want to enjoy the lightest, slimmest reading experience. Your Kindle Sleeve is for keeping your eReader safe when you are not using it, and to allow you to quickly access the Kindle when you want to.

There is no zip or fastening. The sleeves are designed to fit the Kindle tightly, hugging it so it won’t slip out. The slightly curvy design is to give added protection around the corners of the device. Made from neoprene (like wet-suits) this is a tough sleeve that should last a good while. You can wash it (though sadly by hand the makers say), but best of all it comes in a few cool Retro designs (and some plain colours if you aren’t feeling quite so adventurous). Cheerful, cheap and definitely very cool – we love these ones!

3. Tuff Luv Kindle Case Covers with Stands

There are several different versions of the new Tuff Luv Kindle Covers. But all you really need to know is that you get high enough quality that they come with a lifetime guarantee against the workmanship that put them together. There are a few colour choices (though not loads), and several different styles of stand incorporated.

Their Multi-View is likely to take off as so many people have fallen for these in their iPad case incarnation. Personally though, the Saddleback leather Kindle 3 Cover with flip over front cover is the best!

Yeah, they add a fair bit of weight and to be honest are not the ideal solution if you bought the Kindle 3 to read on the commute. But, if you like reading eBooks whilst also managing to shovel cornflakes into your face this is absolutely perfect!

Made well, great stand and a good price. Too heavy for some but still one of the best Kindle 3 covers you can buy in the UK nonetheless! These are definitely more suited to the larger keyboard Kindle, they might spoil the lightweight design of the newer 4th generation version (for those the Duragadget flip style stands are probably a better and lighter choice).
