The new design for a battery free light uses super efficient LED light that takes very little power to run anyway.  The source of the power though, rather than being batteries is the Kindle 3 itself.  The hinge system that holds the reader in place is gold plated for this lighted Kindle cover.  This plating allows a little bit of charge to go from the device to the light providing enough power to ensure you can always read wherever you are.  A nifty idea eh?
